Measurements include elevations, Northings and Eastings, distances, and point-to-point measurements. Northing and Easting measurements are in CA State Plane Coordinate systems, Elevations measurements are provided in NAVD88 or NGVD29. This dataset is for data exploration only. These measurements and point locations are not considered survey-grade since there may be nuances such as epochs, adjustments, and measurement methods that are not fully reflected in the GIS data. These values are not considered authoritative values and should not be used in-lieu of actual surveyed values provided by a licensed land surveyor. Please contact Richard Carter at Richard.Carter@water.ca.gov if you need the official measurements, adjustments, and epoch information. Data is a point feature class presenting the mark locations, mark names, and appropriate data about the mark used for the survey measurement. Related data and time series are stored in a table connected to the point feature class via a relationship class. There may be multiple table entries and time series associated to a single mark. Data was assembled through an import of Excel tables and import of mark locations in ArcGIS Pro. Records were edited by DOE, Geomatics, GDSS to resolve any non-unique mark names. Survey data as part of the 'Precise Surveys' project has been collected from points along the State Water Project. Data includes elevations, Northings/Eastings, distances and point-to-point measurements. Data can be used to view time series of measurements along the State Water Project. Data was consolidated and imported from Excel tables and Google Earth mark locations into a GIS format using ArcPro 2.7.
The associated data are considered DWR enterprise GIS data, which meet all appropriate requirements of the DWR Spatial Data Standards, specifically the DWR Spatial Data Standard version 3.1, dated September 11, 2019. DWR makes no warranties or guarantees — either expressed or implied — as to the completeness, accuracy, or correctness of the data. DWR neither accepts nor assumes liability arising from or for any incorrect, incomplete, or misleading subject data. Imported data is not considered logically consistent. There are data duplicates and omissions that are expected to be completed later. Data duplicates or omissions may be attributed to repeated imports, different end dates, spelling errors, or locational accuracy issues for mark positions. Where these issues are known, they are documented in the relevant fields to help the user. Data updates and edits are expected to resolve these issues with time.
Data only represents the complete data imported from Excel documents provided by Precise Surveys. This may not be the complete catalog of data and will be updated with further versions. Since multiple adjustments of the same data collections may have occured, this dataset is not intended to be an exhaustive catalog of all adjustments that have been compiled.
Attributes are considered to be 100% accurate as imported from Precise Surveys Excel tables. Any changes to the data are noted in relevant tables. Data has been reviewed point-by-point to fix any typos or errors in imports. Additional issues within the attributes will be addressed with further QC and data development. Data import was done by GIS Analysts and not licensed land surveyors.
Locational Quality: Determined to be no better than 5 meters horizontal locational quality at 95% confidence level as determined by a judgment call based on source data. Some horizontal locations were gathered from survey data, while others were extracted from KMZs on Google Earth. Therefore, the locational quality is not consistent between data points. Surveyed Northing/Easting data was used where possible. This report is not being made by a licensed land surveyor, and is not analogous to a positional accuracy statement as stipulated in the California Public Resources Code. For a positional accuracy statement regarding the surveyed values themselves, please contact Richard Carter at Richard.Carter@water.ca.gov.
Vertical Location Quality: Determined to be no better than 1 meter horizontal locational quality at 95% confidence level as determined by a judgment call based on source data and processing methods.This report is not being made by a licensed land surveyor, and is not analogous to a positional accuracy statement as stipulated in the California Public Resources Code. Elevation data gathered and processed by the Precise Surveys group does not use the same reference stations and methods as DOE, Geomatics products. Transformations between NAVD88 and NGVD29 coordinates may also create errors. The values in this dataset are not intended as authoritative values to be compared with existing elevation products without first consulting the Precise Surveys group. Point locations were imported from various locations including the Precise Surveys Mark Location Requests, and mapped Northing/Eastings from the Precise Surveys time series tables. Data was edited point-by-point to ensure accuracy of the Mark Name and attribute data. Typos for mark names were edited, duplicates between various import methods were removed. Non-unique mark names were edited by appending abbreviations or names from the State Water Project location or structures.

Data was edited by going through the point feature class point-by-point. Table entries that had associated mark points were edited to match the unique mark location names. Duplicate table entries were removed, keeping the latest time series table entry. Some table entries may appear to be duplicates, but are actually time series of NAD27 or NAD83 measurements of the same points. These measurements may be very similar, but not the same. Same goes for time series with adjustments vs. those without.
