Abstract:  The California Department of Water Resources (CA-DWR), North Central Region Office (NCRO), Bathymetry Data Collection Section, conducted a bathymetric survey of selected parts of the Sacramento Deep Water Ship Channel and Lake Washington for the Bay Delta Office (BDO). The main purpose of the data is to obtain elevation data in the shoals to supplement a December 2018 interferometric survey by USGS, to validate other datasets, and to replace outdated and inaccurate data in some areas. A separate multibeam survey was conducted for the Ship Channel headwaters, from the Industrial Blvd. overpass east to the Sacramento River locks. These data will inform modeling efforts to aid in the evaluation of a large number of restoration proposals nearby. The data were collected in NAD83 (California State Plane Zone II coordinate system) and NAVD88 datums.• Survey Dates: August 5-8, 2019 • Instrumentation: Singlebeam echo sounder with Inertially-Aided Post-Processed Kinematic (IAPPK) GPS procedures. • Point Spacing: about 1 Foot• Horizontal Units: US Foot• Vertical Units: US Foot• Related datasets: Sacramento Deep Water Ship Channel Multibeam, August 2019; USGS Sacramento Deep Water Ship Channel Multibeam, December 2018 (EXTERNAL);

Purpose: This bathymetric dataset is intended to be used as a base component of studies in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. The associated data are considered DWR enterprise GIS data, which meet all appropriate requirements of the DWR Spatial Data Standards, specifically the DWR Spatial Data Standard version 3.1, dated September 11, 2019. Singlebeam data were collected on the survey vessel and recorded using Hypack Hydrographic Survey software (Hypack). Data were processed in the Hypack SBMAX singlebeam editor, exported as a text file, and imported to a geodatabase with ArcGIS software. Process step:
Description: This data set is comprised of elevation points collected using singlebeam sonar bathymetry equipment corrected with GPS position data. Sonar echograms are screened in Hypack Hydrographic Software and outliers, submerged aquatic vegetation, and noise are removed. Data are imported in ArcGIS Desktop as point feature classes and reviewed for consistency. Further products and analyses are carried out upon request. Metadata are established and the data are stored. Data processing was completed in September 2019.

Data quality report - Conceptual consistency:
Measure description: These data were collected using advanced singlebeam sonar and GPS technologies. They are believed to be logically consistent. Visual inspection was conducted and data were reviewed in ArcGIS software packages.

Data quality report - Completeness omission:
Measure description: During the survey, areas near the water's edge and areas of shallow water depth were occasionally occupied by aquatic vegetation. Dense aquatic vegetation interferes with the sounder's ability to record reliable bathymetric information. Therefore, in order to properly represent the bathymetry of the entire channel, elevation data in most areas of the channel occupied by dense aquatic vegetation were omitted from the final data set and appear as gaps in the data.

Data quality report - Quantitative attribute accuracy:
Measure description: Elevations are generally believed to be characteristic of the channel-bed; however, in some heavily vegetated areas, these data may be more indicative of the elevation of the submerged vegetation, rather than the “bare earth” surface. In deeper areas with low visibility, this discrepancy may not be immediately apparent. “Noisy” patterns in the data are investigated during data processing using Hypack Software. These patterns may signify dense submerged vegetation and are typically filtered.

Evaluation method: GPS post processing was completed using Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) and the National Geodetic Survey website at http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/CORS/.

Data quality report - Absolute external positional accuracy:
Measure description: Locational Quality: Determined to be no better than 1.5 feet horizontal. This statement has not been verified or approved by a licensed land surveyor. Documented instrument horizontal accuracy: Odom CV100 and transducer: n/a // POS MV System: 8 mm + 1 ppm x baseline length, Roll and Pitch 0.015°, Heading 0.03° // AML Base X2 SVP: n/a

Evaluation method: Positional accuracy Assessment Method 1 was used.
