<idPurp>This data represents the subsidence monitoring locations within the Central Valley used in the Fine-Grid California Central Valley Groundwater - Surface Water Stimulation Model (C2VSimFG) to calculate the groundwater storage loss due to compaction. The purpose of the dataset is to allow the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) interested parties and the public to use the C2VSimFG's output data to assist in the implementation of their groundwater sustainability plan.</idPurp>

<measDesc>The Subsidence Observation dataset is the merging of the TRE Altamira InSAR Dataset, DWR Extensometers, USGS Extensometers and Continuous GPS Stations. DWR contracted Towill Inc. (Towill) to conduct an independent study comparing the TRE Altamira Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) vertical displacement point time series data to data from CGPS stations that were not used for calibrating the InSAR data, as well as CGPS stations that were used for calibrating InSAR data in Northern California. For this study, variation in vertical displacement of California's ground surface over time, as measured from InSAR satellites, was statistically compared to available ground based continuous global positioning systems (CGPS) data to show a 18 mm vertical accuracy of the dataset at 95% confidence level from the period January 1, 2015 through October 1, 2020. This statement of accuracy is based on the assumptions that the number, distribution, and characteristics of CGPS check point locations provide a representative sample of the entire study area and of the entire InSAR dataset, and that the CGPS data constitutes an independent The DWR borehole extensometers are a more site-specific method of measuring land subsidence. These instruments are capable of detecting changes in land surface elevation to 1/100th of a foot. When land subsidence and water depth monitoring activities are paired together, hydraulic and mechanical properties of the aquifer system can be determined. The dataset vertical locational quality is estimated to be less than 2 meters based on the elevation accuracy field data on the CDEC source table. The USGS Continuous Global Positioning System (CGPS) Stations record horizontal and vertical ground surface displacement over time. A moving 31 day average filter has been applied to the vertical displacement data from both networks to remove higher frequency noise. For horizontal accuracy of this dataset is not available.
