<measDesc>Elevations are generally believed to be characteristic of the channel-bed, however, in some areas with dense vegetation the data may reflect the elevation of the submerged vegetation rather than the seabed surface. “Noisy” patterns in the data are investigated during data processing; these patterns may signify dense submerged vegetation and are typically filtered. Small gaps in the final dataset (≤ 5 ft) are typically interpolated in the hydrographic software, but larger gaps are left.</measDesc>
<evalMethDesc>Total uncertainty depends on combined contributions from sound velocity, offsets, beam angle, and range. Error introduced from the motion of the vessel was corrected using the Applanix POS MV OceanMaster System. Sound velocity profiles were taken regularly to correct the depth recorded by the transducer for changes in temperature and salinity. Orthometric heights were derived from Geoid 18.</evalMethDesc>

<measDesc>Because multibeam echosounder technology is much less efficient at gathering complete surface coverage in shallow water, these areas are often omitted. Subsequent surveys with a singlebeam sounder may be conducted to fill in these gaps -- please contact the metadata distributor listed in the Distribution section if you need information on data availability for projects not listed under "related datasets" in the abstract. Dense aquatic vegetation also interferes with the sounder's ability to record reliable bathymetric information. Therefore, in order to properly represent the bathymetry of the entire channel, elevation data in most areas of the channel occupied by dense aquatic vegetation were omitted from the final data set and appear as gaps in the data.</measDesc>

<stepDesc>Field data collection: This dataset is comprised of elevation points collected using multibeam sonar bathymetry equipment corrected with GPS position data. Raw multibeam data requires processing to become usable. Because sound velocity varies both temporally and spatially, the field crew breaks down the river stretch to be surveyed into manageable sections of approximately 1 hour of logged survey time. Each section overlaps slightly to prevent missing data. Field data collection was completed August 12, 2025.</stepDesc>

<stepDesc>Data post-processing: Initial multibeam processing was performed with Hypack Hydrographic Software. Typically, the multibeam point cloud is loaded into the review software a section at a time and calibration parameters are checked for accuracy and consistency. Erroneous data, outliers and submerged aquatic vegetation are then filtered out by the hydrographer. Once all sections collected during a survey have been reviewed and processed, they are combined together to create a single seamless surface and exported in bag raster format. These rasters are imported in GIS software and reviewed for consistency. Further products and analyses are carried out upon request. Metadata are established and the data are stored. Data processing was completed in August 2025.</stepDesc>
